Organised by Douglas Town Centre Management and sponsored for the eighth successive year by Tower Insurance the walk is, once again, in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, representatives from which will be in attendance and collecting in aid of the charity.

Douglas Town Centre Manager Oliver Cheshire said: ‘The Tower of Refuge continues to exert a huge fascination, so much so that that the walk regularly attracts around more than 3000 people every year.

‘We’re very grateful to Tower Insurance for their support once again and also to the Douglas Coastguard team without whom this event simply couldn’t take place.

‘We hope that the weather will be kind, although I would urge everyone taking part to wrap up warm as it’s always colder out there than you’d expect and, of course, walkers need to wear suitable footwear.’

Tower Insurance managing director Emmet McQuillan said: ‘The Tower of Refuge is a symbol of safety, security and continuity, so resonates strongly with our business values.

‘Tower Insurance is therefore pleased to be continuing its support of what is one of the island’s largest community events, one which helps to lend visibility to the selfless and dedicated work of the RNLI.’

The Tower Insurance Tower of Refuge escorted walk is open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable clothing and footwear must be worn and instructions from the coastguards and stewards followed at all times.

Subject to weather and tidal conditions the walk will start between 17:50 and 18:00. Access will be via the sets of steps along Loch Promenade, (with the exception of those opposite Jaks).
