Civic amenity site to be re-branded

The Eastern District Civic Amenity Site is to be re-branded the Eastern Domestic Waste Recycling Centre with effect from Friday May 1st, 2015, the site’s operator, Douglas Borough Council, has confirmed.

Chairman of the joint Eastern District Civic Amenity Site committee Councillor Bill Malarkey said: ‘The re-brand reflects the heightened focus on and importance of recycling and, in support of this, the site will be closed for two days to allow for some important safety works, a reconfiguration of the recycling facilities to make them more user-friendly and to install new signage. There will also be additional space allocated for items brought in for re-use.

‘Bringing about these changes has incurred a modest cost, but if in doing so we are able to encourage more households to recycle their domestic waste, then that cost will be recovered very quickly through the savings made in gate fees at the energy from waste plant and the value of recyclable materials, and there will be continued savings to the ratepayers.

The Eastern District Civic Amenity Site will close on Tuesday 28th April at 6.45 p.m. and re-open as the Eastern Domestic Waste Recycling Centre on Friday May 1st at 2.15pm.
