Back for its fifth year, Search for a Star is a singing competition based on the format of the popular ITV show X Factor.  The event boasts the largest prize fund on the island for a talent competition.

George Campbell of lead sponsor the Crescent explained: ‘This year sees each of our judges allocated a group of contestants to mentor throughout the five-week competition, just like in the X Factor.  Voting will be by audience participation. This year, however, sees a new twist with a new wild card opportunity that could see any of the acts parachuted to the final, even if knocked out on round one.  The organisers are keeping the finer details under wraps with all being revealed to potential contestants at the audition stages.

‘The organisers are looking for all types of artists.  Solo singers, duets, bands and groups are urged to apply.  The only condition being you must be over 18.

‘We’re hoping 2013 is going to be a great year for entries and we would like to hear from as many varied entrants as possible to ensure we have a broad range of contestants for the public to vote for.  With a fantastic prize fund of £2000 we anticipate competition to be fierce.’

Auditions will be held at The Crescent on Thursday April 11th at 7.00pm. Contestants are urged to register their entry by collecting an entry form at The Crescent, or entering online at 3FM's website.

The five-week competition will start on Thursday April 18th and continue until the grand final on Saturday May 25th.

All funds raised from the competition will benefit Age Isle of Man.  Fundraising officer Carole Male said: ‘Search for a Star is a lot of fun and one of our biggest fundraising events.  We must thank the Crescent and Pokerstars for their sponsorship, Barclays for agreeing to match funds raised £ for £ as well as media partners 3FM for their support. It really should be a great competition.’
