A poll for the election of one member of Douglas Borough Council's Athol Ward will be held on Thursday June 21st, 2012.

His Worship the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor David Ashford JP, welcomed the arrival into Douglas town centre on Saturday June 2nd of the London 2012 Olympic torch where it journeyed along the promenade on a Douglas horse tram, carried aloft by torchbearer Maureen Barnes-Sherring.

Douglas Borough Council will be observing the Bank Holiday arrangements as approved by Tynwald to accommodate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Tynwald Day celebrations.

Athol Ward bye-election

Following the recent death of Councillor Mrs Doreen Kinrade a bye-election for one member of Athol Ward in the Borough of Douglas will take place on Thursday June 21st, 2012 as required under the Local Elections Act 1986.

The Isle of Man Astronomical Society’s Howard Parkin gave a talk on one of the rarest of astronomical phenomena, a transit of Venus on May 22 at the Henry Bloom Noble Library.

Douglas Borough Council’s strengthened enforcement operation is already having a positive impact on improving the town’s environment after a successful prosecution was brought against a dog owner who failed to remove his dog’s faeces from a back lane in Douglas.
