Councillor David John Ashford has been elected Mayor of Douglas for the 2012-2013 municipal year.

The 2012 Douglas horse tram service will begin on Monday 14 and operate daily from 9am to 6pm until Sunday September 16.

At a meeting of the Council of the Borough of Douglas, held on Wednesday 2nd May, 2012, it was agreed unanimously that the selection of Mr. Councillor D.J. Ashford to serve as Mayor of the Borough for the year commencing 9th May 2012, as originally approved at a private meeting on Friday 30th March, be confirmed subject to election at the Annual Council meeting on 9th May.

The Leader of Douglas Borough Council Councillor David Christian JP spoke for all Members of the Council and staff when he expressed his delight at learning that Mark Cavendish, Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Douglas and acknowledged as ‘the world’s fastest man on two wheels’ had become a father.

Spring sprang with a host of daffodils at the Henry Bloom Noble Library when it held a children’s Easter creative activity session led by senior library assistant Shirley Moore. 

Douglas town centre was ‘choc-full’ of children on Easter Saturday tracking down clues in a treasure hunt that would earn them a chocolate bunny and a face-painting session.
