Building Control Officer – 9 month limited term contract

Grade SO1, SCP 27 – 33 (£38,256- £46,135)

 

A temporary vacancy is available within our Building Control Team. You should have a formal qualification or relevant experience in the building/construction industry, good communication and written skills, experience in Building Control, be capable of carrying out a variety of site visits, have the ability to check plans for compliance with relevant regulations and attend unsightly properties and dangerous structures.

City Warden: Pay Band 1, SCP 10 + Living Wage Allowance - 12 (£23,108 - £24,070 per 37 hour week) plus an average of 8 hours 10 minutes contractual overtime per week, paid at the appropriate rate raising the total pay to: £31,851 - £33,176.

 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of City Warden. You will be required to provide excellent customer service to the residents of Douglas, the City centre visitors, users of the Council’s car parks and patrol areas, as directed, on a daily basis. The role includes improving the experience of Douglas using initiatives and enforcement to deter environmental offences as well as inspecting Council facilities and equipment (e.g., lifebelts, B-lines life-saving equipment) and ensuring care for the environment by carrying out street-scene activities.

 

You must have the ability to resolve conflict in a professional manner, stay calm under pressure, have good communication skills and be able maintain a working knowledge of byelaw enforcement and legislation. A full clean valid driving licence is essential and you will be required to work a shift pattern between the hours of 7.00 am and 19:00 pm over a 7 day week (as per the rota), weekend working is 1 in 3.

A vacancy has become available working in the Building Control Team. The successful candidate will be expected to administer and enforce the appropriate provisions of the island’s Building Regulations.

 

It is essential that you have an HNC/HND in Building or equivalent, a detailed knowledge of building regulations, along with supervisory experience and a current valid driving licence.
