Public service theme of Douglas Civic Sunday service

Public service was a recurrent theme returned to by the Mayor’s Chaplain, Mgr John Devine, Roman Catholic Dean of the Isle of Man in his address at Douglas Borough Council’s civic Sunday service held on Sunday June 10 at St George’s Church.

Mgr Devine invited the congregation to celebrate the tenure of the new Mayor of Douglas, His Worship Councillor John Joughin JP. He spoke of how ‘treating others with respect is the ultimate job satisfaction’ and congratulated those who devoted themselves to public service ‘to enable their fellow citizens to flourish’.

Conducted by the Archdeacon of Man, the Ven Andrew Brown, the service included a musical interlude by Ellie Harrison (pictured below), O Rest in the Lord from Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

 

His Worship the Mayor read the First Lesson, Ecclesiastes 3:1 – 8 and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ian Clague MBE, the Second Lesson, Luke 4:14 – 21.
