This year’s ‘Space Chase’ Summer Reading Challenge, supported for the 13th year in succession by the Henry Bloom Noble (HBN) Library, saw 139 young readers complete the challenge.
230 children signed up for the challenge, which ran during the school summer holidays and tasked the children to read six books and visit the HBN Library three times.
At an awards ceremony to present the children with medals, certificates and prizes, the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Jonathan Joughin, congratulated the young readers and saying their achievement was ‘marvellous’.
Borough Librarian Jan Macartney praised the children for their ‘fabulous’ book reviews and enthusiasm for the quiz, competition and ‘Hunt the Character’ contest.
Workshop sessions saw children working on outer space-related craft-making, while local astronomer Howard Parkin and the Manx Wildlife Trust’s Dawn Dicken gave inspiring talks.
