Douglas Borough Council’s fireworks display on Friday November 1 dazzled despite poor weather.
After bringing the display forward by an hour to beat the worst of the weather, the event attracted thousands to Douglas for a spectacular show sponsored by Celton Manx and supported by the Council’s media partner 3FM.
Regeneration and Community Committee Chair Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘The Council’s fireworks display is always an eagerly awaited community event and we were determined that “the show must go on”. On learning on the Friday morning that bad weather was forecast for later that evening our contingency plans swung into action. We were able to re-schedule the display and alert all parties involved about the time change, from the contractors to the caterers, sponsors, the Council’s own teams and, of course, the general public.
‘It’s thanks to everyone involved for their swift response and cooperation, which ensured the success of the event. The fireworks drew the crowds from all over the Island to the capital for a great family evening out that will have benefited a good number of local businesses.’
