Cheques appeal

The 2013-2014 mayor’s charity appeal has raised more than £14,000.

Mayor BSC3453 MediumDressed to thrill: The Mayor was presented with souvenirs from some of the standout fundraising events of the yearHer Worship the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Carol Malarkey JP revealed the total raised at a reception in Douglas town hall when she presented each of her four chosen charities with a cheque for £3,500.

 

In addition £500 was presented to the RNLI, money raised by the Deeply Dippy event and an ‘oompah’ night raised £450 for Douglas town band.

 

Presenting the cheques Her Worship said that with the support of the Mayoress, Councillor Sara Hackman and the charity committee the ‘fun’ had been put back into ‘fundraising’ and she extended her thanks to her fellow councillors and all those who had sponsored prizes over the year. Among the standout fundraising events were Deeply

Dippy, the charity ball and the golf day at Douglas golf course.

 

The four charities sharing the £14,000 are Junior Achievement Isle of Man, Manx Workshop for the Disabled, Tabitha’s Trust and Victim Support.
