One of the tram service horses sadly died suddenly yesterday afternoon at approximately 4.30pm while leading a tram.
It is believed the horse, Albert, suffered a stroke and died shortly after being taken back to the stables at Strathallan and attended to by a vet.
Born in 1997 Albert would have been 17 years of age in one week’s time.
All the Council’s tram horses receive regular health checks.
Tramways Superintendent Michael Crellin and Operations Supervisor Peter Cannon, and all the Tram Service staff, dealt with the emergency efficiently and professionally and were expertly supported by their colleagues in the Parks and Garage sections.
A post mortem will be carried out, the findings from which will be made public in due course.
