Douglas borough wardens aim to maintain the excellent quality of life of the town through enforcement of the local byelaws.

The Council's budget is voted on at a special meeting held each January when the borough rate is set for the following municipal year.

Byelaws are regulations set by Douglas Borough Council which apply to the Borough of Douglas only, not to the Island as a whole.

The Council operates two car parks in Douglas town centre; Shaw's Brow Car Park and the Bottleneck, as well as car parks in residential areas and parks.

Douglas Borough Council operate and maintain a public Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system in several areas in the borough.

The Council operates two cemeteries.

The Council provides a number of disabled public toilet facilities throughout the town.

The Henry Bloom Noble Library situated on Duke Street is stocked with a large range of books, CDs, access to downloadable eBooks and also offers computers for public use with internet access and free wi-fi.

Public sector housing in the Isle of Man is provided by the Island's housing authorities in Douglas, Braddan, Castletown, Onchan, Peel, Port Erin, Port St Mary and Ramsey. Additionally the Department of Health and Social Care (DoHSC) provides public sector housing in areas where there is no housing authority.

 

Douglas Borough Council is responsible for the letting, management and tenant liaison for more than 2,300 public sector housing units. These include houses, apartments, bungalows and sheltered accommodation.

 

We aim to ensure all residents have the opportunity to live in good quality, affordable homes in safe, sustainable communities.  

 

The scheme is administered by the Borough of Douglas and is open to employees of the Island’s local authorities under the age of 65, or in other organisations that have chosen to participate.

 

The Council’s Waste Services operates a fortnightly kerbside collection service. 

The borough library is the Henry Bloom Noble Library.
